Search Instructions
You can enter multiple search terms in the search box. The results will be all entries that
contain any of the search terms in any order. If you want only those entries which contain
all of the search terms then precede each term with a + (plus) sign. If you want to exclude
a term from your search, precede it with a - (minus) sign. For example,
+swift +dean +1790
will return all catalogue entries with Dean Swift and a date of 1790.
+theology +natural -stokes
will return all catalogue entries about natural theology but exclude those by Stokes.
To search for a precise term or phrase enclose it in " (quote) marks e.g.
"Richard Robinson"
Adding a * (asterisk) to the end of the search term will return all entries
with words beginning with that string e.g.
egypt*
will return entries with 'Egypt' or 'Egyptian' or 'D'egypte'.

Armagh Public Library is a reference-only library because the majority of our collection is pre-1800. As with many old libraries, the books are shelved by size and not by subject, making excellent use of the wallspace and giving a very pleasing look to the Long Room. It is helpful for the Library staff to know in advance what research material is needed before a visit, so that books or manuscripts can be made available for research. Please understand that from time to time some of our collection may be out of the Library for conservation work.
